Passive promotion

Individuals should always be aware of their qualities - their talent, skills, abilities, potential, and everything else that makes a person unique and special. Philosophically speaking, knowing your strengths and passions in life is more than enough to keep you going, even if your surroundings are ignoring you and failing to see who you are and what are you capable of. Nevertheless, we all need at least some kind of affirmation from others, but imposing yourself is a daunting task if you are mostly on your own let alone of a discreet nature. Many will say that the Internet has potentially leveled the battlefield for everyone, but this is still largely only a semblance.

From my own experience, self-promotion, especially through the Internet is more or less a necessary evil, especially for us not fortunate enough to have strong support from our family, piers, milieu, media, industry, etc. I find success to be a relative thing, dependant on many factors, but mostly on luck and personal circumstances. I've been completely devoted to music since I've started as a young child, and despite formal education in totally different areas, it was always my true and only calling. Somehow I've managed to make ends meet only with music for more than a decade now. But it's very tough when you're constantly fighting with limited means and with limited support from others. Add to it being stuck in a hometown due to an inseparable bond with my family and for a ton of other reasons. I never had many opportunities to mingle with the right crowds nor to move in the right circles. Also, I'm simply not an entrepreneurial type. My main drive in music is creative fulfillment, but sadly you need something else in addition. I'm not "rich and famous" (quite the opposite, in fact) nor I will ever be, but I'm extremely proud of everything that I've managed to achieve thus far, almost completely alone. I've made my peace with going forward by doing what I really can do. Apart from actively creating, learning, practicing, and developing new skills, the rest is mostly about "patiently waiting and hoping for the best". This might seem like a "loser's excuse" to some, but it is anything but, at least in my case.
